THE LEAGUE OF LEGENDS
JULY 2024 Doubles
WEEK 3 - The Legends Rest
This week had it all! Pizza! A Strike! A near Strike! Overtime! Extra Time! The world’s longest case of OnePinItis! Yep. And we crowned a regular season champion in the League Of Legends. If you want all the game by game results or look back at the archive of leagues past, just head to https://www.fwya2.com/leagues.html
Due to a scheduling snafu, we played the same schedule in week 1 and week 2 with teams 1 and 2 playing each other twice and teams 3 and 4 playing each other twice. So everyone had to play the other two teams twice and ignore the team they had played 4 times during the previous two weeks. 4 Bonk Shells, after their 4-0 league sweep last week had a one game lead over 1 Bonk Dis and 2 Fowled Folks Home with 3 Jabronis two games off the lead. No one was more than 1 game above or below 500. How’s that for some legendary parity?

MATCH ONE
2 Fowled Folks Home started their first of two matches with 3 Jabronis by winning two tight games, each team with one pin left to topple. 3 Jabronis did not mess around with game 3, Noah Helton was laser focused and cleared the deck with plenty of time to win game 4 to tie everything up. That’s when things slowed down for both teams, flailing away at one pin on each side, neither team able to seal the deal. Match went to 2 Fowled Folks Home by a score of 2-1.
In the other match up 1 Bonk Dis dropped their first two games to 4 Bonk Shells before winning the final match. 4 Bonk Shells won their fifth straight match following their week 2 sweep of the league by a final of 2-1.

MATCH TWO
After a snack on some pizza, the games began. It was getting rough for Terry and Alma Ferstle of 1 Bonk Dis as they dropped the first game to Noah and Dominick of 3 Jabronis. After coming back to win game 2, they lost again in game 3 to give the match to 3 Jabronis 2-1. If 4 Bonk Shells could win over 2 Fowled Folks Home, they would open an insurmountable lead in the season standings with their sixth win in a row. 2 Fowled Folks Home got off to a fast start on the back of Kill Pin Patty Brown’s strong play. Needing only 1 pin to win, their hopes were dashed when Alicia Curley of 4 Bonk Shells won the game with a 4 piece and the hammer. Game two was going better when Scott Brown of 2 Fowled Folks Home got the kill pin, leaving Alicia with a tough 5 pin kill ... of course she nailed it sending the game to overtime, which Alicia eventually won. 2 Fowled Folks Home finally got a win in game three and hand 4 Bonk Shells down to the final pin but were unable to convert. 4 Bonk Shells won their sixth in a row 2-1, likely sealing the regular season championship. As long as they won one of their final two matches ...

MATCH THREE
Patty Brown of 2 Fowled Folks Home kicked off the second match up against 3 Jabronis by knocking down 9 of the 10 pins for a game one victory. Then Noah started knocking down pins non stop during games two and three. 2 Fowled Folks home marched back and got within one pin of taking it to extra time but could not convert. 3 Jabronis were victorious 2-1. The exciting match was between 4 Bonk Shells and 1 Bonk Dis. Alicia and Brandon got “Alma’d” by a bouncing ball throw that took out the final two pins in game one. Then they got “Terry’d” in game two as he knocked down the final pin for two in a row. 4 Bonk Shells came back with a game three victory. Would they have time for two more wins to make it seven. They would need to win quickly. Brandon took care of that with a STRIKE to win game 4. He followed that up with a 9 pin opener to start game 5. But that just left time for 1 Bonk Dis to team up to win with Alma getting two of the last three and Terry killing off the final pin for the win. The streak ended. Thankfully the 2-Fowled Folks Home loss sealed the 4 Bonk Shells regular season championship because guess who was next on their dance card ...

MATCH FOUR
... that’s right. It was 2 Fowled Folks Home vs 4 Bonk Shells. Now that the game meant nothing, both teams played like it. Around the 10 minute mark, Scott managed to knock down the final pin only to have Brandon answer sending the game into OT. One pin was placed on each side. A coin was flipped. No one remembers who won the toss because for the next 10 excruciating minutes both teams missed the same pin over and over and over. As time ran out, Brandon made an ill advised last ditch effort to hit the final pin. His flailing shot was so substandard that 2 Fowled Folks Home offered to let him throw again. Brandon honorably rejected the offer. He instantly regretted the choice as Kill Pin Patty (finally) did what she does and knocked down the final pin on the first throw of overtime giving 2 Fowled Folks Home a 1-0 OT victory. Painful!
On the other lane, 1 Bonk Dis and 3 Jabronis were having the exact opposite experience, finishing games and switching sides at a breakneck pace. 1 Bonk Dis grabbed the first two victories. 3 Jabronis got games three and four to tie it up. Game five came down to one pin standing on each lane as time ran out. I’m not sure which Jabroni picked off the kill shot, but they were able to win the match 3-2, putting themselves at 500 and dropping the week one leaders 2 Bonk Dis into last place just a game below 500. That’s how tight this league was!

RESULTS
3 Jabronis won the week with 3 victories. 2 Fowled Folks Home and 4 Bonk Shells both finished at 2-2. The overtime loss dropped 1 Bonk Dis into fourth place with a 1-3 record for the week. 4 Bonk Shells were able to hold on to First Place and are regular season champs due to their mid-season six game winning streak. Who ended up in second place? 2 Fowled Folks Home and 3 Jabronis both finished at 500 with a 6-6 record. They both got two wins and two losses in their head to head matchup. We had to go all the way back to number of games won in those matches to determine 2nd and 3rd places. 2 Fowled Folks Home got the nod by winning 7 games to 3 Jabronis 5 games, mostly due to a 3-0 skunking in week one. Sadly, there is no difference between second and third place in the playoff backet. Seeds 2 and 3 play each other regardless of rank!!

STANDINGS / PLAYOFFS
With only 4 teams competing the League of Legends, it seems kinda silly to have a playoff with only 2 rounds. And who would compete in Fowling for Dollars? So, we are going to do a double elimination playoff bracket. 1 seed Bonk Shells vs 4 seed Bonk Dis and 2 seed Fowled Folks Home vs 3 seed Jabronis. Win and you are in the finals. Lose twice and you are out. The bracket is below. Feel free to come join us as spectators for the League of Legends tournament on Tuesday July 30th at 7PM!!

WEEK 2 - WORST TO FIRST
Sometimes it’s all working for you. Other nights you are just a little bit off and can’t finish. This week, 4 Bonk Shells had it all working for them. The rest of us were just a little be off, except of course for Terry Ferstle from 1 Bonk Dis who manage a 9 piece spare and a Strike. Let’s take a look. If you want all the game by game results or look back at the archive of leagues past, just head to https://www.fwya2.com/leagues.htm
MATCH 1
When this week started Terry and Alma Ferstle of 1 Bonk Dis led the league by the slimmest of margins. They took 2 Fowled Folks Home out in game one and looked like they were going to continue, but then Kill Pin Patty Brown started killing pins. Scott would knock down the first batch and then Patty would finish them off. They took games 2, 3 and 4 to win the match 3-1. 4 Bonk Shells started the night in last place but got off to a hot start in their first match taking games 1 and 2. 3 Jabronis won game 3 but succumbed in game 4 losing the match 3-1.

MATCH 2
This is where things got interesting. In the 3 Jabronis vs 1 Bonk Dis matchup the two teams were trading wins and losses through 4 games. In game three Alma took out ONE! on her opening shot and Terry got the 9 piece with a biscuit for a team spare. As 20 minutes ran out, 3 Jabroni’s got their second win to tie up the match 2-2. In Extra Time, Alma of 1 Bonk Dis tossed first missing the board. Noah from 3 Jabronis did not miss the target, knocking down a bunch for the extra time 3-2 match win. Not as interesting in the other match. Scott and Patty of 2 Fowled Folks Home got a lead in all four games, but Alicia and Brandon of 4 Bonk Shells took their turns picking up the kill shot in what ended up being a 4 game sweep!

MATCH 3
4 Bonk Shells were feeling confident (not cocky) when they matched up with 1 Bonk Dis who held the league lead starting the night. The trends continued as 4 Bonk Shells won the first two. 1 Bonk Dis responded with a game 3 win but their comeback ran out of time giving Brandon and Alicia a 2-1 match win. 3 Jabronis played a fine match against 2 Fowled Folks home. Although their Fowling was quality, the results were not. Scott and Patty took games 1 and 2 while Dominick and Noah had to watch in horror as game three slipped out from under them on a collateral kill. 3-0 win for FFH.

MATCH 4
Repeat of game 1 on the other lane. For 4 Bonk Shells the result was the same, a 3-1 victory over 3 Jabronis, just a slightly different order to the wins and losses. On the other lane, Terry Ferstle was doing what Terry does, throwing smooth shots down the center of the lane. Games 1 and 2 were wins for 1 Bonk Dis. Scott from 2 Fowled Folks Home was flirting with bonks on his first shot in both games. Another close one in game three was followed by a Terry Ferstle STRIKE! It was a replica of his game 2 nine pin spare, with all ten pins standing. 2 Fowled Folks Home came back and won games 4 and 5 but they were just saving face at this point. Terry became the first “League of Legends” member to pull the Bonk Honk and write their name on the Bonk Board.

RESULTS
While no one has a bonk yet this league, we are seeing some great Fowling. Best this week was exhibited by 4 Bonk Shells who went 4-0 with a 12-3 record for the night. That vaulted Alicia and Brandon from last place to first place!! Everyone else paid for their excellence. 2 Fowled Folks Home managed another 2-2 split moving into to second place. 1 Bonk Dis was sitting in first but went 1-3 this evening putting them back at 500. They’ve split their 4 games with 2 Fowled Folks Home who grabs second on Games Won percentage. 1 Bonk Dis is now in third. 3 Jabronis were in second after week 1 but also had a 1-3 night having to play 4 Bonk Shells twice. Now they are in last place.
There’s not a lot of distance between last and first and even playing only 4 matches a night, all four teams are in the running to take the top seed into the playoffs.
Also, none of us noticed that we played the exact same schedule as we did in week 1. So that means that 1 Bonk Dis has played all 4 of their matched against 2 Fowled Folks Home and 3 Jabronis have played all four against 4 Bonk Shells. To correct that, we will all have to play the other two teams twice next week to even things out. Should be interesting

WEEK 1 - Clash of the legends!
As summer begins, the schedules get tighter and fewer teams sign up. Only the real serious Fowlers, the ones that have “Fowling Problem” make the commitment to join a league in July. Only the “Legends”. So here we have it. Four very equally matched teams. No ringers. Just YA2 OGs. Team One, The Ferstles. Leaguers since the start. This iteration “Bonk Dis” featuring Terry and Alma Ferstle. Team Two, Fowled Folks Home. The owners Scott and Patty Brown. They were here before there was a here here. Team 3. The Jabronis. Dominic Bazzano and Noah Helton. They joined up just after things started up here. They have brought a community of their own, sprouting new teams. Team 4. Bonk Shells. Alicia Curley and Brandon Tuttle. The center of the Ypsi Ann Arbor Fowling Community. So committed that their Christmas Card photo was taken right here at the Fowling Warehouse. These are the members of the Ypsi Ann Arbor LEAGUE OF LEGENDS!
This is a very short league. Three weeks, then a playoff. We decided on only 4 games per night so we could spend more time just hanging out. You would play each team 4 times over the three weeks to decide the seeding for the tournament. The evening started with an entire FAMILY of Ferstles joining Terry and Alma for week one of three. Dominic was running late so we kicked off at 7:30. Not a big issue since there were only 4 matches to complete.

MATCH 1
1 Bonk Dis vs 2 Fowled Folks Home. These were all close matches coming down to the last pin, although 1 Bonk Dis got their game one victory when Terry took out a five piece for the win. Game 4 was in progress with one pin standing on both boards when the buzzer sounded so it was anyone’s game. The victory went to 1-Bonk Dis by a 2-1 score. 4 Bonk Shells started out hot. They thought this could be the league where they finally live up to their potential. They won game one, dropped game two, came back with a team spare in game three and won game 4 outright for a 3-1 match win over the always tough 3 Jabronis.

MATCH 2
The Ferstles arranged for Pizza between matches 1 and 2. There was a bit of a break between matches. The games began with 1 Bonk Dis dropping game one to 3 Jabronis in OT only to come back and win game two in OT. They sealed the deal by taking game three and the match 2-1. On the other lane 4 Bonk Shells kept up their hot streak winning game one over 2 Fowled Folks Home. Then Patty Brown caught fire knocking down all 10 pins for the win in game two with Scott Brown killing off the last three pins in three shots to win game three and the match 2-1.

All the promise of their Match 1 win was starting to fade as 4 Bonk Shells dropped the first two games to 1 Bonk Dis. They saved face by winning the third game but that still left 1 Bonk Dis undefeated three matches into the season. Meanwhile 3 Jabronis dropped the first game of the match to 8 Fowled Folk Home only to come roaring back to win games 2 and 3 and win the match 2-1.

MATCH 4
Since there are only three opponents for each team to face, Match 4 is a repeat of Match 1, just on the other lane. The undefeated 1 Bonk Dis had to try to get by 2 Fowled Folks Home again to keep their record spotless. 2 Fowled Folks Home won game 1 quickly. It looked like 1 Bonk Dis had game two in hand with a Terry Ferstle kill but Kill Pin Patty Brown sent it to OT with one of her namesake shots. With a lucky flip of a coin and one throw Scott Brown followed Patty’s lead getting the OT killer. 1 Bonk Dis took game three and were well on their way to winning game 4 before getting hung up on the final pin. 2 Fowled Folks Home took game 4 before time ran out for a 3-1 victory. On the other lane, 4 Bonk Shells were watching their red-hot start fizzle out like a match in a bucket of water as 3 Jabronis won all three games to take the match.

RESULTS
How evenly matched are these teams? 3 of the 4 teams ended with a 7-6 record in games. However, 1 Bonk Dis leads the league winning 3 of their 4 matches. 2 Fowled Folks Home and 3 Jabronis are both sitting at 2-2 / 7-6 but 3 Jabronis hold second place in the head-to-head match up. 4 Bonk Shells landed in fourth with a 1-3 / 5-8 performance.
Next week, 4 more matches. Let’s see which legendary team can set themselves up for success.
