YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP JUNE 28, 2022 -- It was an exciting final evening of our first league ever at the Fowling Warehouse Ypsi-Ann Arbor. Team 7 Hershfeld/Andre just needed a win to clinch the “President’s Trophy” which goes to the regular season champion ... and they did that 4-1 over Team 4 Ballnik/Robin for a 6-1/27-12 finish. $25 for the regular season champs ... congratulations. Ballnik/Robin remained in 4th place with a final of 4-3/19-18
Second Place was decided by percentage points. Team 6 “The Jakes” won 4-1 over Team 1 Smith/Castle giving them a final record of 5-2/24-11 (.686). Team 3 “The Scotts” lost 2 games in their match with Team 3 Rivard/Sbordon leaving them at 5-2/25-13 (.658). So even though The Scotts won their match and had more wins, the extra loss dropped them into third place while The Jakes rose into second position. Team 1 Smith/Castle ended in fourth at 3-4/18-19 with Team 5 Rivard/Sbordon right behind them in fifth at 3-4/18-20.
The final match was to split up the cellar dwellers between Team 2 Curley/Tuttle and Team 8 “The Kellers”. It was the longest match of the final round but it ended in regulation time with Team 2 Curley/Tuttle winning 4-2 for seventh place at 2-5/17-22. Team 8 “The Kellers” have made great strides in the last two weeks pressing for victory in each match. It eluded them this time and they finished in eighth at 1-6/9-24.

Here's what the final regular season standings looked like.
So that set up the tournament 1 v 8, 2 v 7, 3 v 6 and 4 v 5
#1 seed Hershfeld/Andre disposed of #8 seed The Kellers in three games, as #3 seed Brown/Love did the same to #6 seed Rivard/Sbordon. The longest match did not go the distance with #4 seed Ballnik/Robin taking out #5 seed Smith/Castle 2-1 as the two teams battled over one pin as time ran out.
The shocker of the first round was #7 seed Curley/Tuttle coming back down 2-1 to take the last two games over #2 seed The Jakes for a 3-2 victory. The Dragon Slayers were anointed and moved to the second round.
#1 seed Hershfeld/Andre kept their record spotless with a 3-0 sweep of #4 seed Ballnik/Robin. #3 seed The Scotts had a tough time taking down the Dragon Slayer #7 seed Curley/Tuttle. It ended 2-1 with Curley Tuttle sailing one over the final pin, only to have it bounce off the backboard barely missing the pin on the rebound as time ran out.
The finals were set with #1 seed Hershfeld/Andre facing the only team that defeated them in a match #3 seed Brown/Love. It ended up being anticlimactic as The Scotts could not knock down the final pin in any of the three games. Hershfeld/Andre completed the clean sweep of the field 3-0 without a loss in the tourney! They are the champions of the first ever league at the Fowling Warehouse Ypsi Ann Arbor!!

The Scotts donated their $150 winnings into the consolation Fowling for Dollars pot bringing the total to $187 ... it took a while, but everyone got a piece of the pie.
It was a great season. We are so appreciative of everyone taking the time to participate. We still need two more teams for the July league on Thursday nights. Can’t make Thursdays? We will move the league back to Tuesdays in August, so I expect everyone to sign up for that before we start building our fall three person team league. Go to www.fowlingwarehouse.com/ypsiannarbor/leagues to sign up for July and look for the August sign up coming soon. We will start on Tuesday August 2.

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP JUNE 21, 2022 -- Week 3 of our league led to more surprises. The two bonks last week was shocking enough only to be bested this week by the first STRIKE in Fowling Warehouse Ypsi Ann Arbor History! Team 5's Bill Sborden pulled off the feat at the most opportune time, tied 3-3 with Team 2 at the end of the first match ... for the win!! Team 6 (aka "The Jakes") had zero Jake's on their roster as both missed the evening. Only Jake Donnallon had arranged a sub, Patty Brown, who ended up soloing the entire evening. While she won two games it was not enough to stop Team 4, another all sub team featuring Jason and Abhi who won the match 4-2. Team 1 Renee and Kelly took it on the chin losing 4-1 in an important match against Team 7 Hershfield/Andre. Team 3 (The Scotts or The Owners, you decide) were dominant winning 4-0 against Team 8 who featured a strong sub in Shawn Wendorf, who filled in for Stephanie Keller who was giving just part of her blood (platelets).
We paused between games to let Bill Sbordon sign the board and pull the Bonk Honk.
Round Two had Patty Brown, representing "The Jakes" for Team 6 taking on Team 7 Hershfeld/Andre. This would have been a match of the two first place teams to see which would go into the final round ahead. And it was, but without the Jakes present, Team 7 took the win 4-2. This puts Hershfeld/Andre into the drivers seat for the final night in First Place with only 1 loss 5-1 23-11. The two loss evening drops Team 6 into 3rd place at 4-2 20-10. Team 3 The Owners took a 4-1 victory over Team 2 Curley/Tuttle to move into second place on percentage points 4-2 21-11 while Team 2 dropped into 7th place at 1-5 13-20. Team 1 Smith/Castle had a tough time with Team 4 "The Team Of Subs" losing 4-2, dropping out of second place down to fifth at 3-3 17-15. Since going all sub on us, Team 4 has gone undefeated and the 4 wins move them into fourth place at 4-2 18-14. Big news for Team 8. After sleepwalking through their first 5 matches, the beast was awakened. Michael Keller started nailing the pins and Team 8 made quick work of Team 5, coming off the Sbordon Strike. Final score was 4-0. It didn't get Team 8 Keller/Keller out of the cellar but it got them off the schnide with a 1-5 7-20 record. Team 5 Rivard/Sbordon split the night leaving them in sixth place 3-3 16-16.
THE PLAYOFF PICTURE -- There are 3 teams with a shot at the championship with varying degrees of possibility. Team 7 Hershfeld/Andre has first place in their grasp and can take the top seed with a win. They have Team 4 "The Team of Subs" on their docket. Since Team 4 can only win 4 games, even a sweep would leave them short in the first tiebreaker of Game Winning Percentage. But they can play spoiler. Team 3 The Owners holds second place and is 1 match and 2 game wins behind the leader. They play Team 5 Rivard/Sbordon. A sweep and Team 7 loss could give them the top seed. Team 6 "The Jakes" also have a shot with 1 fewer match win and 3 fewer game wins, but one fewer game loss. Team 1 Smith/Castle plays spoiler. Just like Premiere League Futbol, the lowest ranked two teams are fighting it out in the final week to stay out of the cellar. Team 2 is in seventh place after some heartbreaking losses while Team 8 is in eighth place after getting their first win. They will land in seventh and eighth place after their match. The only question is which order. Regular season winning team gets "The President's Trophy" and $25.00
THE PLAYOFFS -- It's a single elimination tournament. First vs Eight and Fourth vs Fifth in the top bracket, Second vs Seventh and Third vs Sixth in the bottom bracket. Each match will be best of 5 / 20 minute matches. First team to 3 wins advances. When time runs out, whomever has the most complete game wins prevails. If that is tied, we go to pincount in the current game. Still tied, the game continues with rebuttal rules standing. At the end of each turn, if a team leads in pincount, they win the game and the match. The Team with the hammer will have the chance to throw one last time, just like during a regular game.
First Place team receives $300, Second place, $150.
Before the final game the other 6 teams will play "Fowling For Dollars" for the balance of the prize money. Based on your ranking one member of your team will throw with each pin knocked down = $1. If you get a strike or a bonk, you receive the balance of the remining prize money. If there is still money left after the first time through, the other player get a throw, and so on.
Looking forward to an exciting final evening and crowning our first champ ever at the Fowling Warehouse Ypsi Ann Arbor.

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP JUNE 14, 2022 -- Week 2 is in the books and we have a leader. TEAM 6-Donnellon/McQueen tops the leader board with two more victories; 4-2 over TEAM 2 and 4-2 over Team 3. Both matches included a BONK! First from their opponent Brandon Tuttle in the opening match and then from Jake McQueen in Match 2. Strangely, both were followed by near bonks in the next game from Alicia Curly and Jake McQueen again (though Jake Donnellon hit a couple of pins on the first shot ruining the Bonk). Team 6 had Randy Stewart from Redford sitting in as Jake Donnellon's sub in game 1.
Second Place belongs to TEAM 7-Hershfeld/Andre who lost to TEAM 3-Brown/Love in the opener 4-2 but came back and won a tight match over TEAM 2-Curly/Tuttle in the closer.
TEAM 3-Smith/Castle suffered their first loss as well, defeating TEAM 8-KELLER/KELLER 4-1 in game 1, only to take the 3-2 loss on time to TEAM 5-Ballnick/Robin in game 2. They drop into 3rd place on wins.
TEAM 3-Brown/Love remains in 4th place with their win one / lose one pattern. They played two previously undefeated teams winning game 1 4-2 over TEAM 7-Hershfeld/Andre followed by a 4-2 loss to TEAM 6.
TEAM 4-Ballnik/Robin brought all subs with James Pettiprin and Jason Hunter filling in. They fared better than the regulars winning game 1 4-1 over TEAM 5-Rivard/Sbordon and game 2 4-1 over TEAM 8-Keller/Keller. The two wins added to last week's two losses put them in 5th place.
TEAM 2-Curley/Tuttle lost game one to TEAM 6 4-2 but got a BONK and an NONK (almost Bonk) in back to back throws. Game two, while a loss, was still an exciting game 7 with TEAM 7 taking the win 4-3. The Bonk and the win put them in 6th place
TEAM 5-Rivard/Sbordon lost game 1 to the subs for Team 4 4-1, but came back to take out undefeated TEAM 1-Smith/Castle 3-2 as time ran out. The win moves them into 7th place.
TEAM 8-Keller/Keller are still looking for their first win dropping game 1 to TEAM 1 by a score of 4-1. Game two went just about as well as the Team 4 subs stung them 4-1 as well.
We are past the halfway point in the season. Next week's "Marquis Matchups" include TEAM 1-Smith/Castle (3-1) vs. TEAM 7-Hershfield/Andre (3-1) in game one. Game 2 has TEAM 7 against league leaders TEAM 6-Donnellon/McQueen (4-0). This is a chance for TEAM 7 to show us what they are made of.
Let me know if you need a sub. See you next week!

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP JUNE 7, 2022 -- Week One of the first ever Fowling League was certainly eventful. We had a last minute replacement team filled and 7 teams of local Ypsi and Ann Arbor area players. Only the "Owners" TEAM 3 - BROWN/LOVE had participated in a Fowling League before. It was a delight watching some of the new Fowlers figure out their throws and get progressively better as the night went on. We played two 45 minute best-of-seven rounds.
Round One finished before regulation time ran out. TEAM 1-SMITH/CASTLE blanked TEAM 2-CURLEY/TUTTLE 4-0. TEAM 3-BROWN/LOVE also went 4-0 over TEAM 4-BALLNICK/ROBIN. TEAM 6 - DONNALLON/MCQUEEN took out TEAM 5-RIVARD/SBORDON 4-2 while TEAM 7-HERSHFELD/ANDRE got a 4-1 win over TEAM 8-KELLER/KELLER.
Round Two was a bit more competitive as teams started to get more consistent throws and all teams logged a victory. TEAM 6 - DONNALLON/MCQUEEN won their second straight match over TEAM 8-KELLER/KELLER 4-1. TEAM 7-HERSHFELD/ANDRE also logged their second match win 4-2 over TEAM 5-RIVARD/SBORDON. TEAM 2-CURLEY/TUTTLE got their first match win over TEAM 4-BALLNICK/ROBIN. The best match of the night went all the way to the end of regulation time, ending in a tie 3 wins and 9 pins. With just one pin standing TEAM 1-SMITH/CASTLE was able to win with the hammer over TEAM 3-BROWN/LOVE with the entire league looking on.
We have 3 teams with two wins, 2 teams at 1-1 and 3 teams at 0-2.
Next week, Team 4 or 5 will get their first match win as they face off in Round 1. None of the undefeated teams have each other on the schedule, so we COULD have three 4-0 teams after two weeks. Here are the current standings!
