week SEVEN -- PLAYOFFS!!
Tuesday August 22, 2023
After all was said and done with the regular season, we finally made it to the playoffs. To make it even more fun by having a camera crew shoot the whole proceeding (news at 11!).

After all was said and done with the regular season, we finally made it to the playoffs. To make it even more fun by having a camera crew shoot the whole proceeding (news at 11!).
Here’s the final standings. With 11 teams, it makes the playoff bracket interesting. Teams ranked 6 through 11 had to win a play in game to get into the bracket of 8
It started with our lowest ranked team, 9-The Whirly Dirlys in 11th place vs. the typically highly ranked 4-Bonk Shells who somehow fell into 6th place at the end of the regular season. And of course, it did NOT go as expected by the rankings. It was a low scoring match, which is ripe for an upset when you can’t knock down that last pin. Brian and Amber of Whirly Dirlys pulled it off over Brandon and Alicia of the Bonk Shells ending their season 2-1.
The 7th place 8-Fowled Folks Home drew the suddenly hot 5-Jabronis in the play in round. Jabronis pulled out of last place in the final week by winning all 4 of their matches against some pretty tough competition. But as the Fowled Folks do, Scott and Patty lulled the young Jabronis into a deep deep sleep, winning 3-0 and ending Dominic and Noah’s season.
The closest competitors in the play in round were 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me in 8th place and 2-Two Bears One Lane in 9th place. Again, a low scoring match breeds an upset and that’s what happened again as Dan and Pat pulled out a 2-1 victory over Brenna and David.

The bracket of 8 was solidified. We finally got to see the top ranked teams at play. Our #1 ranked team was 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere. They were far enough ahead at the end of the regular season that they didn’t even need to play the last match in the Position Round in Week 6. On paper it looked easy. Terry and Bella’s draw was 9th ranked 2-Two Bears One Lane who had a little trouble getting out of the play in round. No contest? CONTEST! Again, Dan and Pat kept the score low ... that last pin is evil, isn’t it? And just like that, our regular season champs fell to the upstart 2-Two Bears One Lane by a score of 2-1. The Bears seem to light it up around tournament time.
Meanwhile, Jenn and Neil of 7-Whatever Jenn wants had been racing to the finish of the regular season coming back from below 500 to take second place. They had drawn 8-Fowled Folks Home out of the play in round. Scott and Patty kicked it off with a quick win to be followed by what looked like another victory in game two, only to have Jen knock down a 6 pin kill shot followed by Neil’s overtime winner. Each team then swapped an overtime victory. As the clock ran out, Scott and Patty had the pin count 7 to 3. Neil’s desperation throw as the clock ran out knocked down (of course) 4 pins to tie the match. In Extra Time, with the hammer, Neil managed to knock down a couple of pins on the third attempt to finally win the match 3-2.
The only game not featuring a play in team was 5th place 6-Middy’s vs 4th place 10-Beers and Bonks. Unfortunately, Kevin was not joined by his teammate Nick, and with no-subs-allowed in the playoffs, he had to pass Nick’s turn each time. Even so, he was able to get one win over Scott and Xochitl and 10-Beers and Bonks season ended 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
Cinderella 11th place 9-Whirly Dirlys came into the second round against their mentor team, Tommy and Josh of 11-Pints and Pins who ranked 3rd coming in. And it was a lot closer than the rankings predicted. Both teams don’t wait too long to throw, and they got 5 games in, with 11-Pints and Pins moving on 3-2 ending the story for Amber and Brian.

On to the semi-finals. 2nd seeded 7-Whatever Jen Wants was the top remaining seed after all the upsets and they had the speedy 3rd seeded 11-Pints and Pins in their sights. It was a typical back and forth game (which I guess all Fōwling games are by definition) which ended with the higher ranked Jenn and Neil on top, putting Tommy and Josh in the Third-Place game.
In the other semifinal, it was a battle of the underdogs. 5th seeded 6-Middy’s taking on the surprising 9thseeded 2-Two Bears One Lane who had won their way out of the play in bracket and now had the finals in their sights. It looked like Scott and Xochitl had it all wrapped up, but the clock moved too slowly for their liking. In a last-ditch effort Dan and Pat managed to win the fourth game and knock down more pins before the clock ran out to grab victory. On to the finals with our underdogs! (Or UnderBears!)

Before we get to the finals, we will let you know that 11-Pints and Pins took the third-place match over 6-Middy’s by 4-3 margin, featuring a BONK by Josh. Great finish to a good season.
The Finals. Again, on paper, this is no contest. You have the battle seasoned team hailing out of Hamtramck second seeded Jenn and Neil of 7-Whatever Jenn Wants vs. the upstarts from Ypsi Ann Arbor Dan and Pat of 9 seeded 2-Two Bears One Lane. Barstools were lined up on the lanes as the league gathered to watch the drama. And they got their money’s worth. Win for Jenn and Neil in game one. Comeback win for Dan and Pat in game two. Victory for Jenn and Neil in game three. Another win for Dan and Pat in game 4. Time is running out. Great throw from Dan to knock down a bunch. Jenn and Neil are just off target but picking off a one each throw. As time ticks away, one last throw for Jenn and Neil ... just off the mark and ... whoa! Did that just happen? 9th seeded 2-Two Bears One Lane win the Championship 3-2 on pins! It’s a Cinderella story where two large dudes are wearing glass slippers!!

Congrats to our newest champions Dan Wurster and Pat Matway of 2-Two Bears One Lane, proving again that with a hot goalie you can win the Stanley Cup ... aka “The Regular Season Means Nothing” if you are hot the last night.

week FOUR -- 3 Undefeated, 2 Winless, 1 Bonk
Tuesday August 1, 2023
The second round robin started Tuesday and there were winners and losers and bonkers.
The second round robin started Tuesday and there were winners and losers and bonkers.
MATCH 1 -- Before position night, Kevin and Nick from 10-Beers and Bonks were in first place and got a bye. That allowed Bella and Terry from 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere to move into first place. Crazy that they got to meet in match one. All of that rest seemed to cost then and 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere took the match decisively 4-1. Ypsi’s favorite bears 2-Two Bears One Lane were reunited and it felt pretty good beating the returning 9-Whirly Dirlys 3-0. 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked me started their tough evening with a 3-0 loss to 8-Fowled Folks Home. 4-Bonk Shells also started on the wrong foot with some collateral and it went south from there when 7-Whatever Jenn Wants started their “second half revenge tour” by shutting them out 4-0. 6-Middy’s were missing Scott Love with the able replacement of Randy Stewart in his place. Meanwhile, a Xochitl jammed her pinky (non-throwing hand). None of that stopped them from beating 5-The Jabronis 3-1.
MATCH 2 – 1- It’s 4:20 Somewhere got their second win with a 3-1 victory over 9-The Whirly Dirlys. 8-Two Bears One Lane looked like they were cruising to a victory with a 2-0 lead over 8-Fowled Folks Home with 5 minutes left. But two quick wins and a high pin count as time ran out gave Scott and KPP the victory 3-2. 7-Whatever Jenn Wants revenge tour made a stop in Austin where they demolished 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me 3-0. 4-Bonk Shells were buoyed when the music turned back on. Tied 1-1 a quick 3 turn game turned it around vaulting them to their first win over 6-Middy’s by a 3-1 margin. Tommy and Josh finally got to play after their first round bye and did some more damage to the record of 10-Beers and Bonks as 11-Pints and Pins took the 4-2 victory.
MATCH 3 – Two really exciting matches on lanes 11 and 12. On lane 11, 7-What Jenn Wants finally had a tough match against Randy and Xochitl of 6-Middy’s. It was 2-2 as time was running out and pin count was cruicial. Randy’s last throw as time ran out looked like it was about to knock down just enough pins for the game to end in a tie to go to extra time. But the last pin went down, the tapped another pin just hard enough to stand back up, giving Jenn and Neil their third victory of the night 3-2. Right next to them, 5-The Jabronis looked to have a victory in place winning 2-0 over 8-Fowled Folks Home with just 3 minutes to play. A quick win and a seven pin opening shot closed the gap for Scott and Patty. As time ran out, Scott hit a 3 piece split to tie the game. Extra Time. With the hammer, a good opener from Dominic was bested by Patty and FFH pulled out another close one. 10-Beers and Bonks righted their ship in a big way as Kevin Ney Bonked as part of a 4-0 sweep of 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy who bonked me. 11-Pints and Pins got their second consecutive victory over 2-Two Bears One Lane by a 3-2 score. 4-Bonk Shells kept on winning with a 3-1 defeat of 9-The Whirly Dirlys.
MATCH 4 – Three teams completed their night Undefeated. 7-Whatever Jenn Wants went 3-1 over 5-The Jabronis who ended up winless for the night. 8-Fowled Folks Home completed their sweep with another close, yet poorly played, game over 4-Bonk Shells. 11-Pints and Pins got their third win to zero defeats with a 4-2 victory over 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere. Meanwhile 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me got their first game win of the night. Not enough to win the match which they dropped to 9-The Whirly Dirlys 2-1. Maybe Brenna will reconsider taking a night off as they went 0-4 and 1-12 for the night with Keith Colegrove in her place. 10-Beers and Bonks ended up playing 6 games to get a 5-1 mercy over 2-Two Bears One Lane.
STANDINGS
There were some big movements in the standings. While first and second stayed the same with 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere in first at 10-4 and 10-Beers and Bonks in second at 9-5, 7-Whatever Jenn Wants jumped all the way from 8th place to 3rd place at 9-6 with their 4-0 record for the evening. 4-Bonk Shells has the same match record but sits in 4th place due to a .500 games PCT. 11-Pints and Pins jumped up from 7th into 5th at 8-6 after going 3-0 for the night. 8-Fowled Folks Home is on their tail in 6th at 8-7 with a 4-0 record for the evening. 7thplace belongs to 6-Middy’s after going 1-2. 2-Two Bears One Lane dropped all the way to 8th place with a 1-3 record for the evening. 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me lost 5 positions and sits in 9th at 6-9 after losing all four this week. 9-The Whirly Dirlys (5-10) and 5-The Jabronis (3-11) have the last two spots, same as last week.

week THREE -- FIRST HALF POSITION NIGHT
Tuesday July 25, 2023
The only curveball we had for Position night was the last-minute cancellation of Team 9 – Whirly Durlys which sent us into a scramble at the last minute to find subs. Which we did thanks to Randy Stewart and Brenna Tavidian bringing Keith Colegrove with her to fill in.
Once everyone made it here, we were off to the races ... three games to finish our Round Robin followed by a “Position Game” to finish off the first half of the season.

Once everyone made it here, we were off to the races ... three games to finish our Round Robin followed by a “Position Game” to finish off the first half of the season.
MATCH 1 – 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere got locked it a speed match with 7-Whatever Jenn Wants. They got 6 games in the 20 minutes. How? Terry got a STRIKE in game 6 and then a 4 piece kill to tie it up at 3 a piece. There was enough time left to make a couple more throws. Terry and Bella came out on top 4-3. Jenn and Neil smiled and quietly got a drink! 6-Middy’s started drinking in the middle of their shift so they were ready for 2-Two Bears One Lane (for the first time featuring Pat Matway). Scott and Xochitl were ready and won 3-1. 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me had a tough time with 5-The Jabroni’s but prevailed 3-2. 10-Beers and Bonks thought they had an easy first game but with subs Randy and Keith in for 9-Whirly Dirlys it proved to be too much. Kevin and Nick lost 3-2. 8-Fowled Folks Home and 11-Pints and Pins were locked in a tight battle. The first 4 games were close, two going to overtime. Of course the final game came down to pins and Tommy and Josh were the winners 3-2.
MATCH 2 – 4-Bonk Shells have been playing some close games this season. No different for THEIR first match tonight (thank you mister BYE). 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me had it all tied at 2-2 going into the final game but lost on pins to Brandon and Alicia. Final Score 3-2. 10-Beers and Bonks needed a win if they were going to hold on to first place for the position night. They had lost their first match and had a bye in Game 3. Their opponent 8-Fowled Folks Home kept it close, down just 1 as the clock was running out. But Kevin Ney killed the last pin to get a 3-1 victory. Jenn did not want this. After a tough first match, 11-Pints and Pins were ready and ended up skunking 7-Whatever Jenn Wants 4-0. 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere ended up having another slugfest, this time against 6-Middy’s. Again, they prevailed by 1 game with a 3-2 victory. 5-The Jabroni’s always surprise someone each week. And with both backup Jabroni’s in, it was an especially surprising 2-1 victory over 2-Two Bears One Lane.
MATCH 3 – It had been hard luck for 8-Fowled Folks Home in the first two games and they had the undefeated 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere on the ticket for match 3. Of course it was another close match for both teams but this time as the clock ran out with both teams 2 wins apiece, Scott and Patty had one more pin down than Terry and Bella to take a 3-2 victory. 2-Two Bears One Lane logged another 2-1 loss to 7-Whatever Jenn Wants who needed a pick me up after the previous round. 6-Middy’s wanted to make sure of a win this time so they dominated 3-Austin Powers: The Spy Who Bonked Me 4-1. Having their victory in the bag for the night, 5-The Jabronis succumbed to 4-Bonk Shells 0-3. With Randy and Keith subbing for the 9-Whirly Dirlys, 11-Pints and Pins were not expecting ANOTHER skunk. But that’s what happened. They won 4-0 pushing their record to 3-0 for the evening.
MATCH 4 – Our first ever position round, and wouldn’t you know that there were multiple ties requiring some real math to determine the order. First place got a BYE so they wouldn’t lose another game this night. Here’s how it came out.
For the night, the big winners were the undefeated 11-Pints and Pins and 4-Bonk Shells while 2-Two Bears One Lane fell three times by a score of 1-2 each time. So there was some movement in the standings prior to MATCH 4. And a whole bunch of ties!!

Team 10 got the BYE for landing in first place on Games PCT as three teams came in at 7-3. That meant on Lane 15 it was 2nd place 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere vs. 3rd place Bonk Shells. Terry and Bella won the close match over Brandon and Alicia 3-2. Four teams finished at 500. So we went to games percentage with 4thplace 6-Middy’s and the surging 5th place 11-Pints and Pins both having the best two records of that group. They competed on Lane 14 with Scott and Xochitl coming out on top 3-2 blemishing Tommy and Josh’s perfect record for the night. The other two 500 teams were 6th place 7-Whatever Jenn Wants and 7th place 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me on Lane 13. In another close game Brenna and David won 3-2 over Jenn and Neil. Lower on the totem pole were 8th place 2-Two Bears One Lane who were sitting much higher in the standings when they started the evening against 9th place 8-Fowled Folks Home, both at 4-6. In what was deemed “their most fun match of the night” Dan and Pat took home a 3-1 victory over Scott and Patty on Lane 12. The final pairing matched 10th place 9-The Whirly Dirlys and 11th place 5-The Jabronis, both at 3-7. Randy and Keith could only muster 2 wins over the Jabronis, but that was enough for a 2-0 victory.
STANDINGS
We are halfway through the season. It looks like the BYE in the position round cost 10-Beers and Bonks, who played one fewer game than the field. With three teams tied at 7-3 going into the position game and only two of them playing each other, the top three positions were going to be 8-3, 7-3 and 7-4 with Kevin and Nick in the second position. 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere took their customary position at the top with the 8-3 record, 10-Beers and Bonks in 2nd at 7-3 and 4-Bonk Shells in 3rd at 7-4. Same goes for the crew at 5-5 ... two were going to be at 6-5, two at 5-6. Games PCT decided these positions with 6-Middy’s in 4th and 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me in 5th, both at 6-5. 2-Two Bears One Lane leapfrogged the other 5-6 contestants with their position round victory to grab 6th place with 11-Pints and Pins dropping to 7th and 7-Whatever Jenn Wants in 8th. 8-Fowled Folks Home managed to stave off 9-Whirly Dirlys for 9th place with both teams at 4-7. All by themselves in 11th place at 3-7 are 5-The Jabronis.

week TWO -- Everything all at once
Tuesday July 18, 2023
Pretty exciting week with some cliffhangers, comebacks, a bonk, a strike, two undefeated teams and a pretty tight grouping in the current standings.
Pretty exciting week with some cliffhangers, comebacks, a bonk, a strike, two undefeated teams and a pretty tight grouping in the current standings.
MATCH 1: A traffic Jam delayed many players so we got a late start ... Hamtramck style. 8-Fowled Folks Home were dominating 7-Whatever Jenn Wants. They had taken the first two games and there was 6 minutes left, both with 1 pin standing. Jenn knocked down the last pin to get a win under their belts and when Neil stepped up and threw a STRIKE they had tied the match. One game left and with the hammer they knocked down more pins for the comeback win, 3-2. 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me didn’t get their first win until the final match last week, but they kept on the roll taking out the returning 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere 2-1 who spent last week at a concert together. 4-Bonk Shells went 4-0 last week and they kicked off this week with a 3-0 victory over 11-Pints and Pins. Our newest team 9-The Whirly Dirlys had a sub for Amber Daley as Dave Wanlass teamed up with Brian Wanlass. The family connection wasn’t enough to take down 6-Middy’s who won 3-1.
MATCH 2: After going 2-2 last week, Kevin Ney of 10-Beers and Bonks did the smartest thing he could do. Took the week off and got E as his sub. Filling in for his partner Nick was Scott Michalowicz. Good pairing. Good enough to win the first game over the previously undefeated 4-Bonk Shells 4-1. I guess all that good music made Terry and Bella of 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere a little rusty. Or maybe Dan and sub Sergie of 2-Two Bears One Lane needed some rest with the first round bye. End result was a 3-2 win for 2-Two Bears One Lane. I guess that it took Brian and Dave Wanlass a game to warm up. Or the traffic jam that caused Ben Mitchell of 5-The Jabronis to miss match one and postpone their first game influenced their play. Either way 9-Whirly Dirlys notched their first win, a 3-0 shutout. Brenna and David Tavidian of 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me kept their winning streak alive with a tight 3-2 win over Tommy and Josh of 11-Pints and Pins. Scott Love and Xochi of 6-The Middy’s got off to a fast start winning games 1 and 2 over 8-Fowled Folks Home. Game 3 seemed to be headed that same direction until an errant ball knocked over the final pin giving Scott and Patty Brown their first victory. The tide shifted and 8-Fowled Folks Home won the last two games for a 3-2 victory.
MATCH 3: Once you start losing, it’s hard to stop. Ask 4-Bonk Shells. 2-Two Bears One Lane clocked them 3-0 for their second win of the night and 4-Bonk Shells second loss after starting the season reeling off 5 straight victories. What Jenn wants is to not have to play E and Scott subbing for 10-Beers and Bonks. They mercied 7-Whatever Jenn Wants 4-0 right after their bye. Welcome back! 9-The Whirly Dirlys made it two wins with a 3-1 victory over 8-Fowled Folks Home. 11-Pints and Pins righted the ship with a 2-1 victory over 6-Middy’s. 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere won a close match over 5-The Jabronis by a 3-2 score.
MATCH 4: 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere came all the way back from their concert doldrums with a 4-0 mercy of 4-Bonk Shells for their third straight loss of the night. It was a match of undefeated teams as 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me took on 2-Two Bears One Lane. It was a close 2-1 victory for Brenna and Dave who finished the night 4-0. Eric and Scott M subbing for 10-Beers and Bonks took out 6-The Middy’s 3-1 to keep their record spotless in their fill in role. 5-The Jabronis finally notched a victory with a 3-2 victory over 11-Pints and Pins. This time 7-What Jenn Wants is a mercy win. They wanted it so bad that both they and the vanquished 9-Whirly Dirlys marked 5-0 on their scorecard, kind of negating the concept of a mercy. We counted the first 4 games.
MATCH 5: What? Match 5? Since traffic delayed the arrival of 5-The Jabronis Ben Mitchell and we didn’t want to just write down a 4-0 loss for them, we stuck around as they made up Match 1 against ... aw jeez ... 10-Beers and Bonks with E and Scott. Final score was 4-0. Yeah ... at least we all had another beer!!!

STANDINGS: So the standings are tight. By picking the right subs, 10-Beers and Bonks now sit in first place with a 6-2 record. Last week, 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere got some wins out of those subs too and added a couple more victories and land in second at 5-2. Despite losing their last three games, 4-Bonk Shells did win their first 5 putting them in third at 5-3. Then there is a log jam in 4th with 2-Two Bears One Lane, 7-Whatever Jenn Wants and 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me filling the void in that order on game winning percentage. 6-Middy's and 8-Fowled Folks Home both have 3-4 records. 11-Pints and Pins and 5-The Jabronis are both at 2-5 and 6-The Whirly Dirlys are right behind at 2-6. Not so far out that the top team could be at the bottom next week, or vice versa.
Speaking of next week, it is the final three games of the first Round Robin. To fill in the fourth game we will have a “position night”. Whomever is in first place at the end of 10 games and a bye takes the last game bye. The rest of us will play the team next to us in the standings 2nd vs 3rd, 4th vs 5th, 6th vs 7th, 8th vs 9th and 10thvs 11th.
Remember to give your poker chip to someone you want to introduce to Fowling. I will give you a new chip next week with the same edict. Also, let me know if you need a sub. We have a large cast of folks that couldn’t play all the weeks but want to get some throws in.

week ONE -- Welcome to the Summer league
Tuesday July 11, 2023
We had 12 teams signed up ... no byes but a last-minute check of the schedule nixed Clint and Danielle Hixson’s entry into the Summer Doubles League. So again, one team gets to sit, drink and watch while the other 10 play.
It will be an interesting schedule with 11 Round Robin matches over 3 weeks with the 12 match being a position night for teams ranked 2 through 11. First place gets the last game off to celebrate their awesome first half.
It was also a big night for subs with Concerts (Ferstles), Vacations (Xochitl), Injury (Scott Love) and Schedules (Pat Matway) getting in the way and requiring 5 subs to fill in. Thank goodness for our Hamtramck partners feeding us 4 subs (Scott and Amanda for Scott and Xochitl, E and Missy for Bella and Terry and Dan Wurster bringing a friend). We ended up with a full roster of very competitive players.
Let’s welcome some new players who are extended family to the Ypsi Ann Arbor Fowling Leagues. Team 9 The Whirly Dirlys features Amber Daley, Josh Daley’s spouse and Brian Wanlass, Amber’s Brother (I’ll need confirmation on how they are related but I do know that Wanlass is Amber’s maiden name).
Once everyone was schooled on the ways of the league, we were off and running.

MATCH 1. Sitting in for 6-Middy’s, Scott and Amanda made quick work of 5-The Jabroni’s with a 4-0 sweep. Subs E and Missy for 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere also showed their Hamtramck cred by getting a mercy over 10-Beers and Bonks 4-0 with a fine “how do you do” to Kevin Ney and new leaguer Nick Schneider. Brenna and David from 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me wanted revenge on commissioner Brown for shortening the name of their team in the roster but some seriously lucky bounces curtailed that and gave 8-Fowled Folks Home a 3-0 victory. 4-Bonk Shells defended their home YA2 turf by fending off Hamtown pros Jenn and Neil of 7-Whatever Jenn Wants by a 2-1 score. The “best” match of the round was between newcomers 9-Whirly Dirlys and 2-Two Bears One Lane. At 10 minutes in, only one pin stood on each side. There were a number of touchers and near misses before Whirly Dirlys knocked down the final pin. But Two Bears had the hammer and (of course) they got the rebuttal. Stand up one pin, flip a coin and off they went again ... for another 6 minutes until Two Bears got the no rebuttal kill in overtime. Of course they started but could not finish the second game with only minutes left giving 2-Two Bears One Lane the 1-0 victory.
MATCH 2. No Shutouts this round. 4-Bonk Shells continued their Hamtown revenge tour by taking out Scott and Amanda of 6-Middy’s 3-1. The new kids, Brian and Amber of 9-Whirly Dirlys got introduced to E and Missy subbing for 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere as most of us do, on the wrong side of a 4-1 score. Jenn and Neil of 7-Whatever Jenn Wants got their first YA2 victory 2-1 over 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me. 8-Fowled Folks Home continued their lucky streak with a 2-1 victory over 2-Two Bears One Lane. 11-Pints and Pins featuring the return of Tommy Andre and Josh Daley got off to a good start after sitting out Match 1 with a bye with a close 3-2 win over Kevin and Nick of 10-Beers and Bonks. One does notice that teams 10 and 11 have some VERY SIMILAR NAMES. Both feature an alliterative Beer and Fowling reference. Hmmm.
MATCH 3. 2-Two Bears One Lane were looking for their first victory of the season and found it 4-1 over Tommy and Josh of 11-Pints and Pins. Brenna and David’s long team name 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me might have caused them a long wait for their first victory. They would have to wait until match four since they got taken down 3-1 by 10-Beers and Bonks. 3-The Jabronis did not lose (or play) in Match 2 and the rest allowed them to lull 8- Fowled Folks Home into complacency. They trailed 1-0 until there was :30 left in the match when they tied it up as time was running out. One throw per team in extra time and sure enough 3-The Jabroni’s knocked down more pins and won the match 2-1. It was Ham on Ham violence as subs Scott and Amanda subbing for 6-Middy’s gathered a 4-1 victory over Jenn and Neil of 7-Whatever Jenn Wants including a rare “Team Spare”. Good job guys!! 4-Bonk Shells continued their winning ways, this time taking down the new team 9-The Whirly Dirlys 3-1.
MATCH 4. The curse of the long name was cured by having the newest members of the league on the schedule. 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me got their first W beating up on 9-The Whirly Dirlys 2-1. 2-Two Bears One Lane got tangled up with 10-Beers and Bonks and the close game finish with B&B on top, ever so barely, 3-2. Of course E and Missy managed to keep their record spotless subbing for 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere with a 3-2 victory over 11-Pints and Pins. Is there even a question about what Jenn wants? A Victory. She and Neil got one as 7-Whatever Jenn Wants took out 5-The Jabronis 3-0. 4-Bonk Shells completed their sweep with a 2-1 victory over 8-Fowled Folks Home finishing the win as time ran out.
STANDINGS
It’s great to have great subs and 1-It’s 4:20 Somewhere benefitted from having E and Missy sub for them. They lead the pack with a 3-0 record. 4-Bonk Shells did it the old fashioned way, but just winning themselves and are up there with a 4-0 record as well. Middy’s great subs Scott and Amanda only had one blemish on their record at 2-1 in third place. 4 teams are parked at the 500 mark. 11-Pints and Pins and 5-The Jabronis are both at 1-2 while 3-Austin Fowlers: The Spy Who Bonked Me have three losses to go with their victory and sit in 10th. Welcome to the league Brian and Amber. 0 wins and 4 losses has you looking up at the competition. They played well and should see a victory next week.
