Week 11 – Playoffs!
Tuesday November 28, 2023
We kicked off playoff night with a courtesy beer from Saugatuck Brewing Company, their Bonfire Brown on tap. We awarded the prizes for our first four finishers in the regular season. Fourth Place went to 11-Silent Bonkers who received $50. Third place was 6-Irritable Fowl Syndrome for $150. Second Place 15-Fowlaholics got $250 and our regular season champions, Clint and Danielle Hixson of #11-Wine Some, Booze Some won $400 and got the first seed in the tournament.
It's been 10 weeks with an extra week for our Halloween Hiatus and it has all come down to this. All 18 teams make the playoffs but the bottom our ranked 15 through 18 played each other to see who would advance to the round of 16. It was 17 seed #13-Striking Ladies over 16 seed #16-Fowl Frontal 3-2 in extra time and 15 seed #7-Fowling Around 3-2 over 18 seed #18 Just Another Tuesday.
With the round of 16 set, the matches began. It mostly went by the book with 1 #11-Wine Some, Booze Some over 17 seed #13-Striking Ladies 4-0, 8 seed #1-It's 4:20 Somewhere 4-2 over 9 seed #2-Two Bears One Lane, 5 seed #8-Fowled Folks Home beating 12 seed #5-The Jabronis 3-2, 4 seed #9-The Silent Bonkers eliminating 13 seed #17-All Rist No Toe, 7 seed #12-Fowl Weather Friends victorious over 10 seed #4-Bonk Shells 3-2 and 2 seed #15-Fowlaholics ending 15 seed #7-Fowling Around's season 3-2. Two upsets ... 3 seed #6-Irritable Fowl Syndrome was surprised by 14 seed #14-Bottom Fowlers and 11 seed #3-Casabonka shut down 6 seed #10-Let’s Bonk 4-1.
Only 8 teams left in the quarterfinal round. The upper seeds got the wins in 3 matches. 1 seed #11-Wine Some, Booze Some had a close 3-2 win over 8 seed #1-It's 4:20 Somewhere. 4 seed #9-The Silent Bonkers (5-1) skunked 5 seed #8-Fowled Folks Home 4-0. 7 seed #12-Fowl Weather Friends were eliminated by 2 seed #15-Fowlaholics (3-2). The two Cinderellas had to play each other and the lower 14th seeded #14-Bottom Fowlers continued their winning ways over the higher 11th seeded #3-Casabonka 2-1 in a low scoring match.
The semifinals were set. These four teams all get some prize money and play two more games to determine how much. Clint and Danielle Hixson of the 1 seeded #11 Wine Some Booze Some take on 4 seeded Tommy Andre and Josh Daley of #9-Silent Bonkers. In the other bracket it was two old Redford foes Eric "E" Smith with partner Ben Mitchell of 2 seed #15 Fowlaholics versus Jeff "Stewie" Stewart and partner Amie Pallazollo of 14 seed #14 Bottom Fowlers. Both matches were closer than the scores show with the top seeds winning. 1 seed #11-Wine Some, Booze Some got a 4-2 victory and 2 seed #15-Fowlaholics won 3-1 to set up a final against the two top seeds.
While the finals is a best of seven affair, the third place game was a twenty minute match pitting 4 seed #9-The Silent Bonkers against Cinderella 14 seed #14-Bottom Fowlers. After the semifinal defeat, the slipper didn't fit anymore and #9-The Silent Bonkers coasted to third place 3-1 and the $100 cash prize.
The Finals were a back and forth affair with Wine Some Booze Some grabbing game one three and five and Fowlaholics taking games two and four. But the victory was sealed in game 6 with Clint and Danielle racing out to a big pin count lead with E and Ben looking at a split. Knocking down the final pin with the hammer ended the night with a 4-2 victory for regular season and tournament champions Clint and Danielle Hixson of #11 Wine Some Booze Some. Congratulations. $150 for the runner ups and $300 dollars plus the trophies for the tournament champions.

Week 10 – The Final Shuffle
Tuesday November 21, 2023
We’ll start off with a couple quick announcements before getting into the games this week.
Next week are the playoffs. No Subs (although we will consider a sub of equal or lesser skill in case of emergency).
Team Picture Night!! Try to wear your Sam Adams league shirt. We will take a full league photo and an individual photo of each team for posterity. To make sure you get a picture in the yearbook, between games or after elimination, make sure to take a portrait and landscape picture in front of the logo wall.
Two pieces of good news. First was Wolverine State Brewing getting the first round of Irish Hills Red Lager or Barista Coffee Lager. Second was we kept our 10-week league Bonk/Strike streak alive. Brandon Tuttle from the aptly named 4-Bonks Shells kicked it off with a Bonk in Game 3 of Match 1 against 13-Striking Ladies followed closely by a Bonk by Zach Ristau of 17-All Rist No Toe in Game 4 of Match 1 against 18-Just Another Tuesday. Also in Match 1, Scott Love and Nicole Aloe of 6-Irritable Fowl Syndrome paired up for a spare.
As everyone could see from last week’s standings, the final four positions were practically all wrapped up with 11-Wine Some, Booze Some, 6-Irritable Fowl Syndrome, 15-Fowlaholics and 9-The Silent Bonkers sitting 1-2-3-4 each one game behind the other. Only 8-Fowled Folks Home was within three games of the top 4 and the only way to break in was a 0-4 / 4-0 result by the Fourth and Fifth place teams.

WEEK 9 - The Countdown Begins
Tuesday November 14, 2023
The countdown to the playoffs has begun. It was the first questions about "How do the playoff work?", and "What's the Payoff" and "Do the Regular Season and Playoff Winners get the same amount?" and "What is Fowling For Dollars". All of these FAQ will be answered here today.
First, we kicked it off with an icy cold one from our friends at Atwater Brewery who brought their new Hazy IPA Detroit City Juice along with their standard Wheat Ale Dirty Blonde.
Before we even started playing Tommy Andre Bonked on his first throw in practice and (silently) wrote his name on the board. Then the games began.
We kept the streak of a Bonk or Strike every week alive with a ten pin massacre by Jeff Stewart of 14-Bottom Fowlers which served as an exclamation point in game 4 of their 4 game sweep of 7- Fowling Around in Match 1. Jeff pulled the Bonk Honk twice with gusto.
In Match 3, two teams got spares; 2-Two Bears One Lane in game 2 and 4-Bonk Shells in game 3.
The 4 top teams stayed in order for the most part with #1 11-Wine Some, Booze Some, #2 6-Irritable Fowl Syndrome and #3 15-Fowlaholics all going 3-1. 9-The Silent Bonkers went 2-2 and fell out of a tie for 3rd into sole possession of 4th place. The leaders have a 3 game lead over #5 8-Fowled Folks Home so they are very likely to be your four regular season money winners.
You can check it out in the standings below, then we will dig into the playoffs and prize money.

WEEK 9 STANDINGS 11/14/23
WEEK 9 RESULTS 11/14/23
So as you can see, the top four regular season money teams are pretty locked in. It's just a question of who gets who much. The Regular Season Champion gets $400.00, Second Place $250.00, Third Place $150.00 and Fourth Place $50.00.
The Season Ending Tournament is on Tuesday November 28th. After some discussion, it will start at 7PM instead of 6:30P with a 4 team play in round to decide who is in the round of 16. Each of the rounds is just like the regular season ... 20 minutes, winner has the most games won, tiebreaker most pins down at the end of the turn after the Hammer has thrown. If that is a tie, continue until one of the two teams has more pins than the other after the Hammer has thrown. Except in the final game to determine the tournament winner. That is a best of 7 affair. First team to win 4 games wins the championship.
That's followed by "Fowling For Dollars" Teams finishing the tournament in positions 3 to 18 get to throw in reverse ranking to knock down pins, each pin = $1 until the $100 fund is exhausted. If you bonk or strike, you win the remaining pot.
If the tournament rankings were decided now, it would look like this.

WEEK 8 - welcome back everyone!
Tuesday November 7, 2023
Welcome back everyone after our two week break. It was made even better by having Devon from New Holland Brewery share their Hazy IPA Tangerine Space Machine and IPA Mad Hatter.
Then it was back to the lanes.
We came perilously close to breaking our streak of at least one BONK every week. It didn’t come until Match 4 when Jaren Carble from 18-Just Another Tuesday BONKED to save the day.
As for the games we had 4 teams that went 4-0 but only 2 teams that wen 2-2 or 0-4. Everyone else did a 3-1 or a 1-3.
That caused some changes in the standings.
11-Wine Some, Booze Some and 6-Irritable Fowl Syndrome and 9-The Silent Bonkers were three of the teams that went 4-0. And that means they moved up in the standings. 15-Fowlaholics were not one of those teams so they went down in the standings. 11-Wine Some, Booze Some is now in first, 6-Irritable Fowl Syndrome moved up into second, 15-Fowlaholics moved down into third place and 9-The Silent Bonkers stay in fourth but are now in a virtual tie for third.

WEEK 8 STANDINGS 11/7/23
WEEK 8 RESULTS 11/7/23
WEEK 8 GAME BY GAME RESULTS 11/7/23
WEEK 7 - Boy it's Loud In Here!
Tuesday October 24, 2023
It’s getting so loud at the FWYA2 ... I mean we had the horn pulled what 4 times by leaguers and once by a customer? Jeez. Good thing we aren’t playing next week. There’s not room on the board!! And that’s not counting all of the spare either. They don’t get to pull the Bonk Honk but it certainly made the first three games our of league scorecard colorful!! Game Two of Match One had Keith Woeste of 7-Fowling Around get another BONK. Then in Game One of Match Two, Jessica Wolverton of 13-Striking Ladies get her first ever BONK against 15-Fowlaholics. Round 3 saw Brian Wells of 10-Let’s Bonk get a STRIKE on his first throw of Game One against 17-All Rist No Toe followed by E of 15-Fowlaholics in Game Two adding another BONK to his already large collection against 12-Fowl Weather Friends. That’s just the Bonks and Strikes! There were team spares by 9-The Silent Bonkers, 8-Fowled Folks Home, 6-Irritable Fowl Syndrome and 12-Fowl Weather Friends. Jeez guys ... let’s give the BONK HONK a break! My ears are still ringing!! To recap, we started the evening with a couple fine beers from Ore Dock out of Marquette, with their “Uncle Drew’s Flying Machine” Pale Ale and the Ore Dock Porter. Both solid beers. We had some announcements. First bad news. Someone stole the Mobile Fowling Unit trailer from out in front of the Warehouse Tuesday morning. The Sheriff is on the case, but so glad to see all of the Fowlers posting in local media and chat rooms. Already a couple of TV stations and MLive have taken an interest in the story. Hopefully someone will see it and let the authorities know. We miss the MFU already. https://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/2023/10/trailer-full-of-equipment-stolen-from-fowling-warehouse-in-ypsilanti-township.html In better and more fun news, we have the Charity Challenge coming up on Thursday night at 6PM. Put together a team of two or three and bring a $25 donation to the charity of your choice. Your entered into the bracket and we will pool all of the donations together and donate them to the winner’s selected charity. Then afterward, we have Karaoke with DJ Darrel in the Loading Dock. Hope to see some of you there. And finally it looks like we are sending three teams to the Beer City Bash at the Fowling Warehouse in Grand Rapids on Saturday, October 28th. So if you still want to sign up and head out, there will be some friendly folks waiting for you on the lanes. Sign up here https://ow.ly/w0OU50PX8e3 |
WEEK 7 RESULTS
You can find the game by game results below but here’s the headlines ...
First place has changed hands again. Two teams had a really good week. 15-Fowlaholics with Eric Smith and Ben Mitchell went 4-0. So did 6-Irritable Fowl Syndrome with Scott Love and Randy Stewart subbing for Nicole Aloe. That was good enough to put 6-Irritable Fowl Syndrome in 3rd place and move 15-Fowlaholics back into first place. That’s because 11-Wine Some, Booze Some with Danielle and Clint Hixson had a tough week going 1-3. They dropped out of first into second place one game back. Tommy Andre Josh Daley of 9-The Silent Bonkers went 3-1 and are in fourth place, a game out of third.
Remember NO LEAGUE NEXT TUESDAY NIGHT!! The Fowling Warehouse is closed for Halloween so we will see everyone back here on in two weeks on Tuesday November 7th at 7PM for Week 8.
Here's the game by game results and current standings. #FowlOn
WEEK 7 STANDINGS 10/24/23
WEEK 7 - MATCH BY MATCH BREAKDOWN
WEEK 6 - The second half begins
Tuesday October 17, 2023
First a big thank you to Ben from 3 Floyds for providing the first round of Zombie Dust Pale Ale. Very Yummy. Also excited to see that a number of players from our league are taking their teams to the next major tournament, The Beer City Bash in Grand Rapids Saturday October 28th. Click this link to sign up now. Our major tournament is coming up on the closest Saturday to April 1st each year ... March 30th 2024 ... The Big House Bash celebrating two Ann Arbor landmarks, the Hash Bash and U of M Stadium, i.e. The Big House. Week six featured a Bonk by Sergei Varnavski of 16 Fowl Frontal in Match 2 and a team spare by 6-Irritable Fowl Syndrome, Scott Love and Nicole Aloe in Match 1. As for the games, parity rules in our league. There was only one team to go undefeated and one team to go without a win. Everyone else was 1-3, 2-2 or 3-1. I’ve attached the overall results from the night and the updated standings. Remember we are back for week 7 next week with two great beers from Ore Dock in Marquette. Then we take a week off for Halloween. So be ready to get some wins before our only break of the year. And if you want to come see some great Fowling and enjoy the beer of the week, it’s FREE to watch and drink on Tuesday nights at 7PM. Only $15 for open play in one of the non-league lanes. #FowlOn |

WEEK 5 - Bonk Bonk Bonk and parity
Tuesday October 10, 2023
It was another exciting week with three bonks, some major tournament announcements, some fun subs and some great last throw finishes.
We kicked off the night with Tim from North Peak presenting two fine beers to the league; Hail, a Michigan IPA and Switchback, a Clementine Wit. Praise abounded for the fine beverages.
We also announced that the next major is the “Beer City Classic” in Grand Rapids on Saturday October 28th. Patty Brown and Dana Wells will be representing Ypsi Ann Arbor and we are looking for more to join them and maybe sneak out of there with the trophy!!
We also announced our upcoming Major Tournament ... The Big House Bash, annually on the Saturday nearest April 1st to honor two great Ann Arbor traditions, the Hash Bash and the Big House. Next year it will take place on Saturday March 30th, 2024.
Three Bonks were recorded. Two first time bonkers in game 2; Keith Colgrove from 16-Full Frontal and Nicole Aloe from 6-Irritable Fowl Syndrome. Very exciting for them! Congrats. In game 3, Brenna Tavidian got her third bonk. She was bonker #90 on 11/29/22 and #231 on 9/19/23. It’s old hat for her! See the YA2 Bonk Hall Of Fame at https://fowlingwarehouse.com/ypsiannarbor/bonks/
Another exciting feature of the evening were some last minute subs. The Bonk Shells had an emergency Queen Concert and at the last minute a full on Redford team was able to fill in; Randy Stewart and Patrick Leonard, which made for a noisy match 3 on lane 11 with Randy and Patrick taking on Randy’s brother Stewie and Patrick’s ex-Teammate Amee, Team 14 Bottom Fowlers.
Results ... nobody went undefeated. Nobody went winless. Parity abounds in this league and the phrase “Any Given Tuesday” has been uttered around these parts.

WEEK 4 - MATCH BY MATCH BREAKDOWN
WEEK 3 - NORTHSIDE BONKERS (AND STRIKERS, AND SPLITTERS)!
Tuesday September 26, 2023
Last week, we heard from some of our lane reservations that they didn't like the long walk to the bar. So we tried something new. Leaguers to the north, lane reservations to the south. Let me tell you, it was like magic for Bonks and Strikes and Splits on the northside. In Match 1 we had two bonks on the Northwest Rink; Keith Woeste from 7-Fowling Around on lane 5 and Josh Daley from 9-The Silent Bonkers on lane 2. Match 2 had Zach Ristau from 17-All Rist No Toe throwing a strike on lane 13. Match 3 it was Sue "Sneaky Bitch" Kinney from 12-Fowl Weather Friends tossing a bonk on lane 12. Match 4 there was a team Spare by Eric "E" Smith and Ben "3rd Jabroni" Mitchell on lane 2 and a 7-10 split pickup by Makayla Printy from 18-Just Another Tuesday on lane 13.
Blake's Hard Cider was our brewery of the week and thanks to them for providing a free taste of their classic original hard cider to kick off the evening. And congrats to our Hamtown transplant Eric Smith on winning the Naptown Clash in Indy on Saturday with partner Scott Michalowicz.
OKTOBERFEST
Our leaguers are so generous. Thanks to Pat and Terry for buying tickets so they could make a donation to Ele's Place even though they couldn't go. Terry donated his extra tickets to anyone who got a bonk. Those went to Josh and Sue. Everyone else, please come to Oktoberfest. We want to see one of you win the Charity Doubles Tournament. $10 entry (all to the charity) and the grand prize is a 5 lane rental, a $750 value!!. It's Saturday, September 30th. Event starts at 5PM, tournament at 7PM. Right now we have a 4 for the price of 3 ticket option on Eventbrite, but if you don't dig on line tickets you can buy them with no additional charges right up at our front desk starting on Thursday. WEEK THREE RESULTS
With all that Bonking and Striking and Sparing and Splitting, the individual glory didn't necessarily mean your team won the match! We did see two teams go 4-0 this week. 11-Wine Some, Booze Some and 12-Fowl Weather Friends. Pairing that with 15-Fowlaholics finally taking a match loss ... then a second one, we a bit of a log jam at the top with both 15-Fowlaholics and 11-Wine Some, Booze Some at 10-2 in the first two spots. 9-The Silent Bonkers and 1-It's 4:20 Somewhere are one match back at 9-3 and 12-Fowl Weather Friends and 8-Fowled Folks Home sit two matches off the lead at 8-4. Here's how the standings look now along with all of the game results

THE MATCH BY MATCH BREAKDOWN
WEEK 2 - BACK TO THE BACK
Tuesday September 19, 2023
It was nice to get back to the back of the house, our home lanes. Everyone had a chance to try a free one from Arbor Brewing, either their Strawberry Blonde or their ShoreLime Margarita Gose ... both delightful beers. Before we get to the competition, a couple of house cleaning measures. OKTOBERFEST First, everyone please come to Oktoberfest. Ticket sales are really light and we can use the power of the league to make this a great event. Most important for you, personally, is the Charity Doubles Tournament. Here's the link to Eventbrite: https://FowlingWarehouseOctoberfest.eventbrite.com SCHEDULE CHANGES: We have two upcoming dates that we need to reschedule league. First is October 17th. We have a sell out that night so that takes precedence over the league. Sorry. Also a number of you wished to have Halloween off on October 31, also a Tuesday. I said I was going to send out a poll whether we should change nights or just extend the season. I talked to a number of you last night about the options and many of you were not able to change nights because you are in other leagues, Fowling and Non Fowling. By taking those Tuesdays off, it means that we would extend the season to November 28th (Tuesday before Thanksgiving) and December 5th for the Playoffs. Hopefully we won't have too many conflicts for those dates and anyone effected will have the opportunity to make changes in their schedules to accommodate this. WEEK TWO RESULTS Good news first. Patty Brown completed a sweep by picking up the 7-10 split. Brenna Tavidian got a bonk in game 4 of round 1! Bad news. Breanna's team 3-Casabonka ended up losing the match in Game 5. Unlike last week, we did have some winless teams. Two teams went undefeated; 1-It's 4:20 Somewhere and (of course) 15-Fowlaholics featuring Eric "E" Smith and Ben (3rd Jabroni) Mitchell. They only lost one game all night. It's going to be the leagues mission to find a dragonslayer to lay a loss on the Fowlaholics. Sure enough, E's nemesis 4-Bonk Shells show up on the schedule in game 2 next week. Let's see if they can pull a rabbit out of a hat with some Bonk Shell magic next week Here's the results from this week |
So let's take a look at the overall standings. In first place is just who you would expect. 15-Fowlaholics at 8-0 and 27-3. Dominating! At 7-1 are 9-Silent Bonkers and 1-It's 4:20 Somewhere. Only one team at 6-2, thats 11-Wine Some, Booze Some and only 1 team at 5-3, 8-Fowled Folks Home. After that, there are large crowds of teams at 4-4, 3-5 an 2-6. So this should start to sort itself out in the next few weeks.
welcome to the Fall 2023 Doubles league!
Tuesday September 12, 2023
Our fall league kicked off with 18 teams! We matched last year's record. It was a noisy week with two large groups in the back. We had to play on the front 10 lanes, which made for some long walks for beer. The standings have 3 teams at 4-0, 15 Fowlaholics, 9 The Silent Bonkers and 11 Wine Some, Booze Some and two teams at 3-1, 13 Striking Ladies and 1 It's 4:20 Somewhere. The rest of us are at 2-2 or 1-3. Nobody was shut out the first week! |
