What is an open league?
It's a new concept. Everyone is invited to play each week. We'll tally up the number of teams, assign each team a number randomly and play 5 games based on a schedule for that many teams. Each week, you rack up the match wins. At the end of 4 weeks we tally up the wins and award trophies to the champions. You don't have to be there every week, but you will likely have more wins the more matchs you play. So if you are just looking for some competition, be here at 7PM Tuesday and we will slot you in.

WEEK FOUR -- THE FINAL WEEK
The experimental August Open League is complete, and I think it was a great success!!
For anyone just joining us, you can walk in, pay your $15 bucks and join in the competition. No 4-week commitment. No finding subs when you can’t make it. No matter how many teams show up, we will accommodate. Once we determine how many teams are here, we draw cards for team numbers, pull up the appropriate schedule and play 5 matches. If you play more than one week, your scores are added and which ever team WINS the most games at the end of the four weeks is the champion. So, the more you show up, the more likely you are to have the most wins.
Amazingly we had five(ish) teams make it every week. Xochi played each week with three different partners. The Bonk Shells played 2 nights. Kevin and Nick joined us for a week. It was a lot of fun and a great way to shake off the summer doldrums.

MATCH 1
Bonk Dis, Terry and Alma Ferstle had a commanding two match lead entering competition on Tuesday. But they hit a bump in the road to the championship when the encountered Dominic and Noah of The Jabronis. Bonk Dis won the first game, the Jabronis won the second and took the third game on pin count as time ran out for a 2-1 Jabronis victory. Kung Fu Powlers were playing so well in weeks one and two that they were able to take week three off and still be within two games of the championship. They drew Pinning for the Fjords for match one and won games one, two and four, dropping only game three for the 3-1 match victory. The Fowled Folks Home were also two matches back of Bonk Dis. It was the owners Patty and Scott Brown vs. the employees; The Bartendaaz, Xochitl and Gabby. The owners bookended wins in games 1 and 3 for a 2-1 match win.

MATCH 2
The bad luck continued for Bonk Dis in Match Two as The Bartendaaz won three in a row to take the match. Now only a Match back, the contenders were closing in. Fowled Folks Home won both games against Pinning for the Fjords to move into a tie for fist. Meanwhile Kung Fu Powlers missed their opportunity to do the same. After winning game one over the Jabronis they dropped the last two putting them one match back of the leaders in the overall standings.

MATCH 3
The Jabronis recorded the only SWEEP of the evening with a 4-0 victory over Pinning for the Fjords. Kung Fu Powlers kept pace with the leaders by defeating The Bartendaaz 2-0 to take the match. The two teams tied for first place met in what ended up being a pivtol match ... Bonk Dis and Fowled Folks Home were tied for first place coming into the match. Behind the strength of Scott Brown’s first shots and “Kill Pin” Patty Brown’s kill shots, they one the first two games. Game three looked like it was going to Bonk Dis when Scott Brown made a sick rebuttal shot to tie up the game. After a couple of rounds, Fowled Folks Home got their third win in overtime to move into first place by a game.

MATCH 4
Pinning for the Fjords has been a hard luck team all season but nothing exemplified HOW HARD LUCK they were than their match against The Bartendaaz. They won match one and were up 9 pins to 7 in game two, closing in a victory. Then a ball shot over from another lane. Lee saw it coming and moved into a defensive position only to have the ball go between his legs to pick off the three pin split that would have been a tough shot for the other team. They had one last shot at the last pin and did not make it, losing the match 2-1.
The two undefeated teams were Fowled Folks Home and The Jabronis. The teams are very evenly matched and have been very competitive over the summer and this match was no different. Jabronis took game one. Fowled Folks Home took match two. Jabronis took match 3. Both teams got it down to one pin in game four. That’s when time ran out. The Jabronis remained undefeated with a 2-1 victory. That’s when the door opened for a spot in first place with both Bonk Dis and the Kung Fu Powlers in second place by one win, and they play each other in match four. It was a hellava match between the Ferstle parents and kids. The kids took match one and two. The parents won games three and four. The final game went to Kung Fu Powlers, continuing Bonk Dis’ tough night and catapulting Kung Fu Powlers into a tie for first place for the season. And now The Jabronis with their perfect night intact were tied for second with Bonk Dis.

MATCH 5
The final match. The Jabronis drew The Bartendaaz for their final match and continued their winning was taking the first three games before The Bartendaz took revenge and won the fourth game. The 3-1 match win set up the Jabronis for a possible tie for first place depending on the outcome of the other matches. Bonk Dis was in the same boat, needing a win over Pinning for the Fjords to stay in contention. Keeping with both storylines, Bonk Dis lost the first two games only to win the next two. Tied going into the last game, it came down to pincount as time ran out and Bonk Dis got their first win as the hard luck Pinning For the Fjords dropped their final match of the night 3-2. That left it up to the second match between the two teams tied for the league lead playing each other in the final game. Fowled Folks Home against Kung Fu Powlers. (Full disclosure, both teams enter the match having 12 wins ... just that KFP did it in THREE WEEKS where FFH took four weeks to reach the same total). Regardless, this was a MOST WINS league so the winner of this match wins the league. Scott and Patty cinched up their Depends and took games one and two. The Pandas got a quick win in game three but their road to the championship ended with two more Fowled Folks Home wins for a 4-1 match victory.

WEEK 4 RESULTS
The winners of the night were The Jabronis who went 5-0. Fowled Folks Home went 4-1with their only loss coming to The Jabronis. Kung Fu Powlers went 3-2. The Bartendaaz went 3-2 for Xochitl’s first winning night. Bonk Dis had a tough night at 1-4, losing their first four matches. And our hearts go out to Pinning for the Fjords who were in every single game only to lose more than they won each match, dropping all five.

STANDINGS
The final standing have Fowled Folks Home sitting at the top with 13 wins. Three teams have 12 wins ... Kung Fu Powlers (12-3), Bonk Dis (12-8) and The Jabronis (12-8). Since Xochitl played with different partners 3 of the 4 weeks, we divided her out from her partners in the standings. She got 7 wins (7-13). The Bonk Shells were here for two of the four weeks and gathered 6 wins (6-4). Gabby also played two weeks with Xochitl and managed 5 wins. Kevin and Nick only played one week and got 4 wins that night (4-1). Lee and John of Pinning for the Fjords also got 4 wins but it took them four weeks to do it (4-16). Terry Ferstle Sr. and Julian Foster were Xochitl’s partner for a week and each got 1 win. Congrats to Fowled Folks Home on their second regular season championship in a row. Everyone who showed got their own trophy and AFA coin to take home as a momento of another great month of league. Thanks everyone!!

Week THREE -- THE LEADERS SIT / NEW COMPETITION
One interesting thing about this “Open League” format is that you just don’t know who is going to be playing each week. This week, the Bella and Savvy, The Ferstle Sisters aka Kung Fu Powlers took the week off leaving the door open for all of us below. Then Kevin Ney and Nick Schneider decided to join us replacing any skill level that was lost without Bella and Savvy. Next, the bartenders, or should I say “Bartendaaz” Xochi and Gabby got into the act and created a team. So there were seven. We played the 8-team schedule with team 8 being the bye.

MATCH 1
John and Lee of Pinning for the Fjords are the hard luck team of the league. They play well enough to win each match but there is always something keeping them from getting the W. Their first match paired them up with Terry and Alma Ferstle of Bonk Dis. They traded wins and made it well into a fifth game when the timer hit zero. At that moment, Bonk Dis had more pins down than Pinning for the Fjords giving them the victory and a heartbreaking loss for Lee and John. Patty Brown from Fowled Folks Home was on a mission and the unfortunate bystanders were Alicia and Brandon of Bonk Shells. As a “welcome back” for Bonk Shells absence last week, the Fowled Folks Home dropped a 4-0 sweep on them. Kevin Ney and Nick Schneider with the creative team name “Kevin/Nick” also got a welcome back present from Dominic and Noah of The Jabronis. They threw down a 4-1 victory over the shellshocked AFA Fowlers. This league ain’t for the faint of heart!! The Bartendaaz got a free victory by taking the bye.

MATCH 2
Kevin/Nick turned it around, dropping game one to The Bartendaaz followed by four straight wins for a final score of 4-1. Fowled Folks Home continued their winning ways taking out Pinning for the Fjords 3-0. Bonk Dis won their first game over Bonk Shells, who came back and won games two and three for a 2-1 match victory. Meanwhile The Jabronis kept warm on a open lane while enjoying their bye victory. If you draw the bye, you get a match win and no game wins or losses.

MATCH 3
Kevin and Nick found the wins harder to come by than expected. In their path in Match 3 were the Bonk Shells. Kevin and Nick won the first two, but Alicia and Brandon got two of the last three before time ran out on their comeback. 3-2 win for Kevin/Nick. Bonk Dis never has too long of a losing streak. They made their comeback from the Match 2 loss over The Jabronis by winning the first two games, only dropping the third as time was running out. 2-1 final for Kevin/Nick. The third game was the employees Bartendaaz vs the owners Fowled Folks Home. Management had a tough time negotiated with these employees and the final pin in games one and two. By the time the first two games were complete, there were three minutes left with Bartendaaz up two. Game three featured a Scott Brown personal spare but there wasn’t the same fast win in game four giving a 2-1 victory to the Bartendaaz.

MATCH 4
Things got exciting in Match 4. Terry and Alma Ferstle of Bonk Dis embarked on a six game match with Xochi and Gabby of The Bartendaaz. They traded wins for the first two games. Game three saw Alma pick up the 7-10 split for the win. Then Gabby of the Bartendaaz took it to the next level in game four with her first league BONK!. Bonk Dis finally stacked two wins together in games five and six for a 4-2 match victory. The Jabronis and Fowled Folks Home have a history of playing some tedious games. Each flailing away at one pin while the clock keeps ticking. This was one of those matches where it took forever to get to a win apiece. As the clock ran out, it went to extra time with each team having one pin left standing in game three. The Jabronis finally KO’d the final pin for the ET win, 2-1. Kevin/Nick got three straight victories over Pinning for the Fjords.

MATCH 5
It looked like Pinning for the Fjords was headed toward a victory over The Bartendaaz winning game one in Match 5. But Xochi and Gabby lit it up winning games two and three taking the match 2-1. Kevin and Nick play pretty quickly and knock a lot of pins down so they’re able to get six games in where most are playing fewer. Against Bonk Dis they squeezed in six games, Win-Loss-Win, Win-Loss-Win for a 4-2 victory. The Jabronis had their foot on the brake in their match against Bonk Shells. Alicia and Brandon won the first and last game with Dominic and Noah winning only the middle game. 2-1 victory for Bonk Shells.

WEEK 3 RESULTS
The best record was owned by Kevin and Nick who won their last four matches after losing the first. Bonk Dis, Fowled Folks Home, Bonk Shells, The Jabronis and The Bartendaaz all managed a 3-2 record for the night. Pinning For the Fjords was not part of the gang at 3-2 finishing at 1-4.

WEEK 3 STANDINGS
With the different teams and schedules each week, sometimes with fowlers playing with different partners each week, it’s pretty tough keeping track of everything. The most important stat is MATCH WINS. With the Kung Fu Powlers taking the week off it allowed Bonk Dis to move into first place with 11 wins. In second is the aforementioned Kung Fu Powlers at 9-1 and Fowled Folks Home at 9-6. In fourth are The Jabronis with 7 wins and 8 losses. Bonk Shells clock in at fifth with 6 wins and 4 losses. Xochitl has 5 wins with a different partner each week. Kevin and Nick managed 4 wins in their 1 week of play. Gabby benefitted by being part of Xochi’s best week so far picking up 3 wins. Terry Frestle Sr. won’t be back in the league but will forever have 1 match win and a 5-11 game record. Julian Foster, Xochi’s week 1 partner is bringing up the rear with 1 match win and a 3-11 game record.
Please join in next week for our last week of league play before Labor Day. It’s only $15 bucks and we’ll be handing out trophies to the winners next week!!

Week TWO -- My Dad Fowls. His Dad Fowls too!
Terry and Alma Ferstle have been hosting his Father and wife from Australia for the past couple of weeks. Since almost everyone in the family is in the August Open League, they have been tagging along. Terry Sr. has offered to fill in if someone was needed and when 5 teams showed up on Tuesday August 13, he teamed up with bartender Xochitl to become the 6th team “Scavengers”.

MATCH 1
Sisters Bella and Savvy Ferstle of Kung Fu Powlers and Dominic Bazzano and Noah Helton don’t waste much time Fowling. Typically, both teams knock down a bunch of pins. That was evident when they played each other in Match 1 and reeled off 6 games while the other two pairings completed only half that many games. Final score was Kunk Fu Powlers 4, Jabronis 2. Bonk Dis with Terry and Alma Ferstle drew Lee Gaiser and John Leftwich of Pinning for the Fjords. The newcomers pinned a surprising 2-1 loss on Bonk Dis. Xochitl and Terry Sr. had to play Scott and Patty Brown of Fowled Folks Home and lost the first two games before staging a late comeback and winning the third game. Then time ran out.

MATCH 2
We’re not sure if Bella and Savvy of Kung Fu Polwers took their foot off the gas pedal when they played their Mom and Dad, but the results would suggest that. They lost 3-1 to Terry and Alma of Bonk Dis. The Jabronis righted the ship against the Scavengers with a 3-1 match victory. Pinning for the Fjords pinned a 2-1 loss on Fowled Folks Home who traded victories in the first three games but left game 4 incomplete with one pin standing on each side.

MATCH 3
With no relatives on the opposing team, Savvy and Bella Ferstle turned on the jets against Fowled Folks Home Scott and Patty Brown taking a 4-1 match victory. Meanwhile Grandpa Terry Sr. and Xochitl got their first victory 2-1 over Pinning for the Fjords by winning the last two of three. Bonk Dis managed at 2-1 victory over the Jabronis. This was the only match where there were not Ferstles playing against Ferstles!

MATCH 4
Each match was three games and each team found a different combination of wins and losses to get to either 2-1 or 1-2. The Jabronis won games 1 and 3 to get their 2-1 victory over Pinning for the Fjords. Kung Fu Powlers played Grandpa Terry Sr and Xochtl and won the final two games to get their 2-1 victory. Bonk Dis won the first two games and lost the third to get their 2-1 match win over Fowled Folks Home.

MATCH 5
You would figure that Alma and Terry would let Dad win one, but not the case. It wasn’t a sweep but a 3-0 victory for Bonk Dis over the Scavengers. Lee and John of Pinning for the Fjords started off strong with a victory over Kung Fu Powlers but dropped the last two to take a 2-1 loss. Fowled Folks Home and The Jabronis traded wins over 4 games when time ran out. One throw for each team. Noah overthrew his shot and got 0. Scott managed to drop the biscuit in the basked and knock over enough to win the match in Extra Time 3-2.

STANDINGS
Since you don’t have to be here every week, the only stat that matters is Match Wins. Right now Kung Fu Powlers are in the lead with 9 wins and 1 loss. Next up are parents Terry and Alma Ferstle of Bonk Dis with 8 wins and 2 losses. Third goes to Scott and Patty Brown of Fowled Folks Home at 6-4. The Jabronis are in fourth at 4-6. Alicia and Brandon Tuttle of Bonkshells weren’t here this week, but their 3-1 record ties them with Lee Gaiser and John Leftwich of Pinning for the Fjords at 3-7 in fifth, both with 3 wins. Team Xochi, last week with Julian this week with Terry Sr. has managed to rack up two wins and owns 7th place outright.
You can join in the fun next week. All you have to do is show up, pay $15 for open play and report in. You’ll be put into the round robin and you can try to knock off one of the strong Ferstle teams. We’ve got plenty of room.

Week one -- the league is open!
Never tried this before so it should be interesting. Every week, as many people who want to play can show up. We will create a schedule using those teams and get 5 matches in. We keep on-going records and the team with the MOST MATCH WINS at the end of the 4-week league wins!!
For week one, we determined that there were 7 teams. We had everyone draw team numbers and played off the 8 game schedule. If you played “Team 8” you got a bye, you win the match but did not win (or lose) any games.
